Alex Medina
I am a freelance photographer based in southeast Mexico (for now). Throughout my life I’ve been fascinated by the images of places I’ve never been or would never reach; such as the incredible photos on National Geographic of Jane Goodall studying chimpanzees habitat or the oxygen-thin heights of the Himalayas, and from Life magazine the tragic series of photos of Pres. J.F. Kennedy’s fate or iconic photo of a sailor kissing a nurse in the middle of Times Square celebrating the end of WWII.
Although not as glamorous as those covers photos from Life Magazine or National Geographic and others, I also saw beauty within my everyday life, special people, magical places and odd things. I’ve often wished that I had a camera growing up because life was so different then, and those images live only in my memories now. So, my approach to photography is not to create necessarily the most artistic but one that tells a story, one that stirs emotions. And just like old songs bring a mixture of reactions, from joy to nostalgia, from anger to acceptance, I feel that photos are different in the sense that the viewer creates its own narrative behind the image, a story that is unique and personal.
So please take a look and let me know what you think, and I hope you enjoy them. Thank you for browsing my portfolio. For inquiries please contact me.
